In an unexpected development that has generated widespread discussion in Ghana, Rev. Fr. Samuel Adapore, the Catholic priest recently suspended by the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong, has been located at the Police Training Centre in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, where he is reportedly undergoing training toward joining the Ghana Police Service.
From the pulpit to police training
The Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong confirmed Fr. Adapore’s whereabouts in a statement dated August 27, 2026.
According to the Diocese, the priest made the decision independently and enrolled at the training centre as a private individual. The Diocese described his decision as being made on his “own and singular volition.”
The development comes only days after the Diocese announced his indefinite canonical suspension.
Fr. Adapore had been serving as Rector of St. Anthony of Padua Rectorate at Nkwantakese. The Diocese’s own website also lists him as Rector at St. Anthony, Nkwantakese.
Why was Fr. Adapore suspended?
On August 24, 2026, the Diocese announced that Fr. Adapore had been placed under an indefinite suspension a divinis.
According to the Diocese, the action followed allegations that he had taken leave and abandoned his pastoral ministry without legitimate permission, removed his personal belongings from the mission house and become unreachable.
The sanction prevents him from publicly exercising certain priestly functions, including administering the sacraments, celebrating or concelebrating Mass and officiating at other liturgical services.
Importantly, the Diocese has clarified that suspension does not mean Fr. Adapore has ceased to be a Catholic priest. Rather, it restricts his exercise of specified priestly functions while the disciplinary matter remains in effect.
His disappearance raised public concern
Before his location became known, reports about Fr. Adapore’s absence generated considerable discussion, particularly on social media.
Questions were raised about his safety and welfare and about whether sufficient efforts had been made to establish his whereabouts before the suspension was imposed.
The Diocese subsequently defended its handling of the matter, arguing that concern for a priest’s welfare can exist alongside the Church’s responsibility to maintain discipline and ensure that parishioners continue to receive pastoral care.
Now, however, one major question has been answered: Fr. Samuel Adapore is alive and has been located.
What has surprised many people is where he was found — not at another parish or religious institution, but at a police training facility preparing for a possible new career in Ghana’s security services.

The unusual development raises several interesting questions.
What motivated Fr. Adapore to pursue a career with the Ghana Police Service? Did he intend to permanently leave active priestly ministry? And what will happen to his canonical status if he successfully completes police training?

The Diocese has nevertheless stressed that locating him does not end its responsibility to examine the circumstances surrounding his departure from pastoral ministry.
