The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Hon. John Dumelo, has reportedly requested the contact details of a female teacher at Kotokogyane No. 2 in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region following her public complaints about poor working conditions at her school.
The teacher, who is also a mother, recently attracted public attention after expressing frustration over the conditions under which she teaches.
In a video reportedly covered by BBC Ghana, the teacher openly defended her decision to draw attention to the situation, indicating that she was prepared to face disciplinary consequences rather than remain silent.
“This is where I teach, so why shouldn’t I post? If you want to terminate my appointment today, go ahead. I am ever ready,” she reportedly declared.
Her remarks have generated discussions on social media about the challenges confronting teachers, particularly those serving in rural and underserved communities.
Reacting to a social media post highlighting the teacher’s situation, Hon. John Dumelo reportedly expressed interest in reaching out to her.
“Pls i need the contact details of the teacher. Thanks,” he wrote, according to the circulating report.
His response has attracted positive reactions from social media users, many of whom hope that his intervention will help draw attention to the teacher’s concerns and improve conditions at the school.
The incident has renewed public discussion about the working environment of teachers in deprived communities across Ghana.
Teachers in some rural areas face difficulties involving inadequate classroom facilities, limited teaching materials and other challenges that can affect the quality of education.
The situation at Kotokogyane No. 2 has therefore prompted calls for greater attention to the needs of schools outside major towns and cities.
Education stakeholders and members of the public are being encouraged to consider how such concerns can be addressed through the appropriate institutions.
The development also places renewed attention on the Ghana Education Service, the relevant local education authorities and other stakeholders responsible for ensuring suitable teaching and learning conditions.
For now, the teacher’s public appeal continues to highlight the importance of listening to educators who raise concerns about the environments in which they work.
Moment of Wisdom GH TV will follow developments surrounding the teacher’s situation and any subsequent intervention.
