Residents of Samreboi and Asankragwa in the Wassa Amenfi West Municipality of Ghana’s Western Region are counting their losses after devastating floods swept through the area, destroying homes, displacing families, and disrupting livelihoods.
According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), more than 24 buildings have collapsed following days of heavy rainfall that caused rivers and drainage systems to overflow. Several communities remain submerged, with roads rendered impassable and many residents forced to seek temporary shelter.

Although no fatalities had been officially confirmed at the time of reporting, authorities have urged residents living in flood-prone areas to move to safer locations and strictly follow safety directives issued by emergency responders.
The latest disaster has once again highlighted the urgent need for improved drainage systems, stricter enforcement of building regulations, and better environmental management practices. Experts have consistently warned against construction on waterways and the indiscriminate disposal of waste, which often worsens flooding during the rainy season.
