The continuing marital difficulties involving Bishop Daniel Obinim and gospel musician Florence Obinim have become one of Ghana’s most discussed religious and entertainment stories. Evangelist Papa Bright of Hamburg has now added a message of peace to the conversation, urging the couple to consider reconciliation, forgiveness and restoration before finally walking away from their marriage.
Recent developments suggest that the situation has moved beyond ordinary social-media speculation. On September 8, Bishop Obinim publicly addressed the matter during a church service. According to his account, members of Florence’s family had met him in Kumasi to discuss their marital problems. He stressed that although he had left their family home, he had not initially told the family that he was no longer interested in the marriage.
Obinim Reveals Conditions for Reconciliation
During his latest explanation, Obinim said he had communicated conditions under which he believed reconciliation could take place. He wanted Florence to distance herself from Prophet Ogyaba and make a public apology on social media. According to Obinim, Florence was unwilling to meet those conditions, after which he was informed that her family had presented drinks associated with the traditional process of ending the marriage.
Earlier reports had already claimed that Florence’s family had returned the traditional marriage drinks, although initial reporting cautioned that the development had not at that stage been independently confirmed by either spouse.
The current crisis follows months of public disagreement. In June, Florence said she would accept a divorce if that was what her husband ultimately wanted, explaining that she believed she had done what she could to sustain the marriage.
Obinim had previously taken a different position. In June, he publicly said he would not divorce Florence and described his departure from their home as taking time away rather than necessarily terminating the marriage.
In July, he announced that he was ending the public exchanges about their marital difficulties, saying he regretted how far the dispute had travelled publicly and wanted to put the matter behind him.
Papa Bright: Give Peace Another Chance
Against this background, Evangelist Papa Bright believes reconciliation should still be explored if both husband and wife are willing.
His appeal is not about deciding who is right or wrong. Instead, it is a call for the couple to consider the many years they have shared, their children, their Christian faith and the possibility of resolving their differences privately with trusted family elders and mature Christian counsellors.
“Bishop Obinim and Florence, where reconciliation is still possible, forgive one another, communicate and give peace another chance. Twenty-two years of marriage represents a long journey. Don’t allow anger, outsiders or social media to make a decision that should ultimately be between husband, wife, family and God.”
That message echoes Christ’s words in Matthew 5:9:
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
Reconciliation Cannot Be Forced
At the same time, reconciliation requires two willing people.
Marriage restoration cannot be achieved through public pressure, humiliation or forcing either spouse to remain in a relationship against his or her will. Where there are deep disagreements, the healthiest path may involve private dialogue, professional or pastoral counselling, family mediation and clear boundaries.
The public should also be careful not to turn another family’s painful experience into entertainment.
Bishop Obinim and Florence are public personalities, but behind the headlines is a real family dealing with a deeply personal situation.
Moment of Wisdom
The Obinim marriage controversy provides a broader lesson for every couple.
Protect your marriage before you protect your pride. Communicate before misunderstandings become permanent decisions. Forgive where forgiveness is possible, seek wise counsel, and keep sensitive family matters away from unnecessary public warfare.
Evangelist Papa Bright’s appeal is therefore straightforward:
“Bishop Obinim and Florence, please give reconciliation another chance.” 🙏❤️
Whatever their eventual decision, may wisdom, dignity and peace guide both of them—and may the interests and wellbeing of their family remain paramount.
